Four films were created for the University of the Arts 2010 graduation ceremonies. Student life, artwork and event photos were animated by Squint/opera and then Vj-ed and projected across 3 large screens in time with a brass band. Held in the Royal festival hall the films were a striking backdrop for such a formal yet creative event.

FINAL REMINDER from BRITISH GRAVITY

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

A series of stills currently being exhibited at the Medcalf Gallery, London, EC1R 4QE

Gravity has become a commodity. The power to harness,
control, compartmentalise and subsequently charge the
public for their use of a force previously taken for granted
is in the hands of British Gravity.

The effect is the extreme polarisation of society. The gap
between the rich and the poor has grown greater than
ever. British Gravity is immensely powerful and able to
influence government policy. Citizens unable to pay their
gravity bills are cut off and resort to desperate measures.
The longer they are subjected to zero gravity, the weaker
they become. Their muscles atrophy and their bones
wither. Gravity has become an effective tool for social engineering.

In a series of five stills, Squint/Opera explores a parallel
world of extremes. Cutting through social classes, the images
are snapshots into a world in which even the natural
forces have become traidable commodities.

Vote for Skylon

Friday, July 11th, 2008

We have made a film as part of the Rebuild the Skylon campaign.
Built for the Festival of Britain in 1951, the Skylon was a 300 foot high metal sculpture that sat in the heart of London on the Southbank. It was demolished in 1952 but people have wanted to rebuild it again on a regular basis. It became an icon for a new era in British history, and is the first example of high-tech architecture in the UK.

Flooded London

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Squint Opera depicts living in ‘Flooded London’ in 2090

A series of fantastical 3d images exploring life in a future flooded london are on display as part of the London Architecture Festival at the Medcalf Bar in Exmouth Market from 20th June until the 20th July. The images have already appeared in various publications including Dezeen magazine and Moleskins’ blog. Hear Jonathan Glancey, the Guardian’s architecture critic talk about the exhibition here.

The general scenario is set 80 or so years into the future, long after the sea levels have risen. The catastrophic side of the sea coming in has long since past and the five images are snapshots of people going about their lives, having adapted to the city’s new circumstance.

Limited edition prints are available for sale.
