Four films were created for the University of the Arts 2010 graduation ceremonies. Student life, artwork and event photos were animated by Squint/opera and then Vj-ed and projected across 3 large screens in time with a brass band. Held in the Royal festival hall the films were a striking backdrop for such a formal yet creative event.
We are once again showcasing a series of films on the big screen in Federation Square Melbourne for a month starting on August 1st 2010.
This time our films will run for 30 minutes, daily at 5.30pm (when there are openings in fedsquare tv schedule) and 12.30 am at night. On weekends the films run again at 3pm. So come on over to peek at our films.
In the midst of MIFF (Melbourne International Film Festival), film and architecture collide. At this month’s Process we present the offspring of these disparate, but strangely congruent, disciplines. From polished project show-reels to designs informed by cinematographic processes to the intangible worlds of the virtual, Process plumbs the depths of the confluence of Architecture + The Moving Image.
Squint Aust’s Fooch will be giving a short lecture and presenting squint films for the night.

This July, Melbourne’s CINECITY group will present a series of workshops exploring the relationship between architecture and cinema. As part of that group, Squint/Opera/Australia’s very own Fooch will be also be giving a presentation and exhibiting our squint films.
We are showcasing a series of films on the big screen in Federation Square Melbourne from the 4th of June till the 5th of July. This comes in conjunction with the FedSquare “Light in Winter” festival. The screening is curated by Melissa Delaney under the “Notes of the underground” series.

Squint/Opera screening at the 2009 Nemo Festival in Paris
Several of Squint/Opera’s films will be screened as part of this years jampacked Nemo Festival in Paris. Alongside an exciting line up of artists who are delving into new forms of cinematic, new media, interactive and live art, Squint’s films will be shown as part of the Panorama International on the 9th & 10th April at the Le Cube Centre Numerique. Store Street on Monday 13 October follows last month’s amazing threesome with another that will again peer into the territories that are beginning to animate and stretch the architectural scene beyond its boundaries.
Our episodes in the new Fonejacker series are broadcasting on E4, every wednesday night from 16th September 2008 at 22:00.
The studio has been busy animating episodes 2, 3 and 6 of the six part Bafta winning cult comedy show.
Jules has been invited by Platform 21 in Amsterdam to present squint/opera. This lecture is part of their show "checking reality".
Some of our films will be screened at the Saint-Etienne International Design Biennial 2008 in the exhibition Flight Number 10 : " As a way of illustrating the attention paid by designers to the development of societies, their uses and their everyday practices. There will be two parts to the exhibition: one area will be devoted to young European creators (in partnership with Culturesfrance), while a second area will be open for people to discover projects from other continents." We have made a film as part of the Rebuild the Skylon campaign.
Built for the Festival of Britain in 1951, the Skylon was a 300 foot high metal sculpture that sat in the heart of London on the Southbank. It was demolished in 1952 but people have wanted to rebuild it again on a regular basis. It became an icon for a new era in British history, and is the first example of high-tech architecture in the UK.
