What is squint/opera anyway?
Saturday, December 28th, 2002Legend has it that Squint of a Thousand Transitions was an ugly, excitable, but quick-witted half-divine, half-mortal trickster who was covered in tattoos. If he didn’t like the ways things were, he changed them. And there were many things Squint didn’t like. One day he came face to face with Opera. Opera, the ancient Yellow Mugwump with extra eyes and ears who stood bravely at the head of his army of realistic 3d bears, tigers, and leopards. The heroic warrior king feared nothing and no one. He boldly challenged sea monsters with flexibility and creativity. The world braced itself for a clash of the Titans. However, mutual admiration for one another drew the two deities together. Their great respect for each other manifested itself in the making of short films about architecture and urbanism to be used in presentations. Squint and Opera descended to the studio they created and built a team worthy of the gods. Squint circled the studio in one direction, Opera went in the other. When they met face to face, they married. They became Squint/Opera and conceived hundreds of little flat circular shiny offspring that were enjoyed by architects, planners, government bodies, developers, and the public. Since the creation of the myth of Squint/Opera, people from all corners of the world have claimed to have seen their offspring in presentations, exhibitions, installations and on television.
