FLOODED LONDON 2090
client: Squint Opera
Three hundred and forty years after the Great Fire comes the Great Flood—but the flood of 2090 is a different order of catastrophe altogether.
Squint/Opera’s realisation of a London taken back by the sea is curiously utopian; there may be no-one left to mend the windows in St Paul’s Cathedral, but on a summer’s day you can jump from the Whispering Gallery into a cool basilica filled with water. The five images of ‘Flooded London’ are snapshots of London lives some time after the catastrophe, obliquely depicting adaptations to a near-deserted urban environment where an office block like Canary Wharf is a place to go fishing and a street in Honor Oak turns into a slipway.
