IET at Savoy Place

Experiential designs for IET’s new HQ

Working closely with MET studios, Squint/Opera's brief on this project was to create three experiential installations for the Institute of Engineering's newly refurbished headquarters at Savoy Place in London.

The work was split into three parts - a 'Field of Energy Sculpture', 'Member's Wall', and the '100 Ideas Wall.' The field of energy sculpture stands at the entrance of the IET building, and presents the convergence of various engineering sectors the IET represents through a dynamic field of energy. The facets are depicted as animated particles of energy that subtley animate and come to life to become greater than the sum of their parts, creating an ever-changing image that visitors can view from underneath as they arrive. The member's wall is within the lobby of the member's floor and provides a real-time live digital display of IEt's activity across the world, including tweets, past and future events, videos, news releases and IET member numbers from across the world. The 100 Ideas Wall depicts the importance of engineering in our every day lives through objects that have fundamentally changed the way we live. From inanimate objects to vehicles, huge scale engineering ideas to microscopic technologies, the objects are displayed in front of a large-scale digital display.
