King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture

A Saudi story with Snohetta.

To help promote global culture and pride in Saudi Arabia’s heritage, the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture designed by Snøhetta is rising from the desert close to Dhahran in the east of the country. As part of this initiative we have created two short films - one to tell the story of the building’s concept and creation, and the other to show the excitement and potential of the building in use.

The films begin with intriguing animated imagery of the building growing from the Saudi soil and then weave together new film footage of the Saudi landscape and people, graphics and specially commissioned music. The building is to be clad in 500km of steel tubing made in roughly 3m sections, each section totally unique. Recreating this façade in 3d was one of our biggest challenges.
