Communicating an open-source design to support hospitals during Covid-19

CURA is an open-source project aimed at converting shipping containers into intensive-care units to support hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. We joined as digital media partners to help communicate the collective mission and purpose of CURA: connecting with new collaborators and realising the prototype.

The Brief

‘Rapidly help the client attract collaborators and funders to prototype a lifesaving invention.’

Our Response

We created a short animated film that clearly and simply communicates the purpose and need for CURA Pods. The film starts by stating the global need for intensive care units at the beginning of the pandemic. It then swiftly introduces the audience to CURA as an agile and responsive solution. The film ends with the call to action to join the open-source task force and help the team realise the prototype.

Just four weeks after its launch, the first CURA pod was installed at a temporary hospital in Turin, Italy with the sponsorship of UniCredit. The initiative was selected as the Architecture for Good Jury Winner at the 2020 Architizer + Awards. It was described by the jury as “a highly relevant endeavour due to its objective to address the pressing crisis of COVID19.”
